This past week has not been a good week for J1. We were plagued with service interruptions that caused our network access to fail and therefore cut off the broadcast to our listeners.
Let me explain what happened. Our internet service provider Qwest had an issue with the circuit which connects our telephone central office here in Tempe to the ISP. This caused the circuit to sporadically fail. This explains the outages that took place a few days at about 2:30AM PDT. The major of the outages started at 2:30AM PDT last Wednesday. While we were up on Basic Mode by 6AM, the actual outage here at J1/REC lasted for over 13 hours. The next day, we had a 3 hour outage.
I will say that in the 10+ years we have had Qwest services here at REC, the network has been very reliable and this is the first non-weather related failure in recent history.
I am very disappointed though at Qwest’s slow response to the issue as this did not just affect J1/REC, but also half of the city of Tempe.
Between the outages and the start of the World Cup, J1’s stats have been under average. We are hoping that things will pick up when the work week starts again.
On behalf of J1 Radio, I apologize for the interruptions and I thank each and every one of J1’s listeners for your support. As the net’s leading all-JPOP broadcasters, we look forward to bringing you new music every week.
