J1 reports February, 2010 results

Even if you take into consideration that February was a short month, J1 saw an overall decline in total listening hours and a substantial decline in VIP listening.

J1 saw a substantal increase in listening during the PST evening hours from 5PM to 11PM (during Japan’s workday), Sunday through Thursday.  During this time, J1 had an ASL of 18.09, which is well above our station average.  This is compared to the North American workday ASL of 16.82.

J1 reminds our VIP listeners to make sure that they are logging on with their username and password even if the stream is not full.  This will assure that J1 receives the credit for your listening.  J1 is listener supported and every hour you listen with your VIP membership is important to us.

In March, J1 will present Michiasa Music, a new sub-playlist of over 1,200 handpicked tracks.  Michiasa Music is designed to go on Monday through Friday from 8 to 10AM in Japan.  In late February, J1 introduced the Michiasa Music subformat with the “Michiasa Music Matsuri”.  The Matsuri show attained a 10.08 ASL.  The average Retro Weekend in February attained a 9.60 ASL.

On behalf of the J1 Ministry of Stats Geekery, we thank you for listening to J1!

WHAT IS AN ASL?
ASL is short for (average simultaneous listeners).  It is a simple formula that we use to determine who many people are listening to the broadacst at one time.  We find the ASL to be a much more effective measurement than just counting listening hours.  To detemrine ASL, add up all of the hourly scores within a listening period and the divide by the number of hourly periods.

J1 thanks you for listening…. J1 LOVES YOU!

J1 2009 Kohaku Uta Gassen Preview (Scoped Aircheck)

Michi-chan gives a preview of the 2009 NHK Red and White Song Battle (Kohaku Uta Gassen) by ranking the artists based on 2009 J1 Top 40 Chart statistics and then giving points to each artist that will go towards their team (red or white).

This is a scoped aircheck meaning that most of the music is cut out but if you missed the Kohaku Preview, you will still be able to hear all of the content but in this compressed 35 minute version.

Originally aired on J1, December 19, 2009.

This is J1’s first pre-recorded production.

* - Starting this year, J1 will impose a special placement rule. No artist can have a song within 10 positions of another song by the same artist. The additional song will be placed 10 positions below the original song regardless of scoring. This is to comply with United States copyright law (DMCA) as it applies to internet radio stations for the presentation of the playlist in the broadcast. Even though it will be broadcast, the Lower-100 chart also applies with this new rule.
